Obituary for Robert Clifford Hurd

Northumberland

Robert C. Hurd, 87, was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on Monday, December 1, 2014. A lifetime resident of Northumberland where he lived a simple and faithful life.

Born in Glens Falls on September 2, 1927, he was the son of the late Clifford and Robertena (Rice) Hurd.

He was a graduate of South Glens Falls Central School class of 1946.

Robert worked for many years in the South Glens Falls Senior High and Ballard Road School’s as the head custodian and a bus driver. He retired in 1984. In his retirement, he worked part time for the Clark Funeral Home for ten years.

In his younger years, Robert was in the 4-H Club. He enjoyed having a garden, traveling to Maine especially York Beach, fishing, hunting, and camp fires. He was a past member of the former Gansevoort Lodge #845, a member of the Unity Lodge #23, charter member of the Gansevoort Volunteer Fire Department and was a one time Fire Commissioner of the Gansevoort Fire Department.

Robert was a member of the Fortsville United Methodist Church.

Survivors are the many now saddened hearts he touched. Dear cousin, Leneta “Neta” Gamache and family, special friends, Rick and Laura Critcher and family, along with many other cousins and friends.

At Robert’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Fortsville United Methodist Church, 402 Fortsville Road, Gansevoort, NY 12831 with Rev. Paul Dufford, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be later in the spring at the Gansevoort Cemetery.
