Obituary for John Mattison

Hartford/Lake George

John H Mattison “Poppa” passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Maryland, on April 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Herbert and Margaret (Haskins) Mattison.

On October 30, 1959 John married the love of his life, Carol McNaughton.

In 1963 John worked on Homer Johnson’s farm, he then went on to work for Ideal Dairy Farms, he went on to work for David Martin Lumber Yard, where he was known as “John D Barker”, he then went on to work for Casey Arlend installing lockers, after he worked for Mark Hardwood Construction for three years, and retired from Stonebridge Farms in 2010.

Poppa Man enjoyed many things in life, his main loves were spending time with family on a front porch drinking a cup of Stewart’s coffee, riding the four wheeler, fishing and hunting, taking pictures of his deer and fixing any vehicle or piece of equipment as well as being considered a jack of all trades. He was an avid hockey fan, who loved the Buffalo Sabres, and had season tickets to the Glens Falls Civic Center where he rooted on many teams throughout the years. He also enjoyed watching Duck Dynasty. He was always willing to help anyone that needed it and never asked for anything in return.

Besides his parents, John is predeceased by wife, Carol (McNaughton) Mattison, sister, Connie Mattison, brother, Gary Mattison, brother in-law, Frank Lafountain . sisters in-law, Lillian LaFountain and Donna Mattison.

Left to cherish his memories are his brothers, James Mattison, Leon Mattison and wife Linda, sister in law, Ann Mattison, daughters, Ann Bardin and companion, Dan Smith, Valerie Haché and husband, Paul, Cheryl Mattison and Fiancé Scott Viele, sons Stacey Mattison and wife, Tina, John V. Mattison, Brian Mattison and wife, Kellie, grandchildren Christina Blanchard and husband, Scott, Kimberly LeRoy and husband, Kevin, Michelle Ballard and husband, Paul, Jacob Bardin, Becky Matraw and husband, Jay, Robert J LaBarge, Melanie Mattison and fiancé Paul Woodell, Amanda Mattison, Jordan Serviss, Tessa Mattison, Tate Matthew Mattison, Barb Hildreth and her husband, Geoffrey, Craig Stafford, Angel and Krystal, great grandchildren, Hayleigh and Dylan Girard, Lucas LeRoy, Jillian and Kailyn Ballard, Ryleigh Beadleston, Sage and Brittney Matraw and Violet LaBarge, great-great grandchild, Hunter J. Matraw, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many step brothers and step sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted following calling hours at 4p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Edgert of High Peaks Hospice, Chaplin, officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12p.m. on Saturday May, 9 2015 at the North Granville Cemetery.
