Joan V. (Burns) Corbett, 85, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 after a long illness.

Joan was born July 6, 1929 in Troy, NY. She was the daughter of the late John Burns and Josephine (Thompson) Burns, (a native of Waterford, Ireland).

Joan graduated from Catholic Center High School in 1947 and worked at Blue Cross-Blue Shield as a claims representative in Albany until her marriage.

Joan married Lawrence E. Corbett, Jr. in 1955 and was married for nearly 60 years at the time of her death.

Joan was an active person while bringing up three healthy children. While her husband became involved in local, county, and state politics, she was very active in the Washington County Women’s Republican Club, serving as Vice President for a number of years. She was a longtime social member of the Glens Falls Country Club where she met numerous individuals who became close, personal friends. Joan was always welcomed to chat and carry on extended phone calls with those dear friends.

Joan volunteered her time to the Glens Falls Hospital Guild for many years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

Joan is survived by her husband, Lawrence E. Corbett, two sons; Michael Corbett and his wife Barbara, and John Corbett and his wife Lucia, a daughter, Sheila Corbett, seven grandchildren; Christopher and Ryan Corbett, Katherine and Julia Corbett, and Cara, Maureen, and Tess Flacke, her brother John Burns and his wife Sharon, along with their sons Daniel, Michael, and Christopher Burns; her sister Shirley Dowd, nephews; Stephen and Gregory Dowd, and a niece, Marcia Dowd.

At Joan’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on 11a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

Rite of Committal will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls following Mass.

Following the Rite of Committal, a reception will be held at a place to be announced at Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in Joan’s name can be made to the St. Mary’s/St. Alphonsus Regional Catholic School, 10-12 Church St, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
