Obituary for Virginia L. Canfield

Lake George
Virginia L. Hutchins Bennett Canfield “Ninnie”, 92, of Lake George, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday February 25, 2015.

Born in Indian Lake NY, on July 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Vina (Savarie) Hutchins.

She married the late George Milford Bennett on July 17, 1939, and later remarried the late Russell Canfield in 1971.

Virginia worked for the Glens Falls Hospital in the 60’s and 70’s as a dietary nutritionist, and later became a private caregiver to many people in need.

Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family as well as cooking meals for her grandkids. She also enjoyed playing pinochle, gardening, fishing and reading. She was very fond of her hometown of Indian Lake, where she made many memories. Nin’s Children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. The legacy of her kind and selfless spirit will live on in each of them.

Besides her parents and husbands, she is predeceased by her son Joseph Bennett; her brother, Arthur Hutchins; and her twin great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, James W. Bennett, and his wife Betty Lou; her daughter, Rosalyn M. Austin; her grandchildren, Jimmy Joe Bennett and his wife Cathy, Jean McCarthy and her husband William, Joseph Austin and his wife Danielle, John Austin, Richard Bennett and his wife Laurel, Peggy Forrester and her husband Joseph, Virginia Bates and her significant other Jaimie Sweet, Rose Mellon and her husband Patrick, and Russell Bates and his significant other Melanie Washburn; as well as her 20 adoring great grandchildren, Steven, Kristen and Alyssa Bennett; Christopher and Molly McCarthy; Johnna Austin; Joseph and Scottie Austin; Jamie and Jack Bennett; Emma and Quinn Forrester; Kayla and Kyler Prosser; Dakota Sweet; Patrick, Jack and Charlie Mellon; Christopher and Tanner Bates; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
