Obituary for Ann Mae Secci (Burke)

Ann Mae Secci (Burke)
Ann ‘Nan’ Burke Secci died peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2015 at Westmount Nursing Facility. She was born 12.27.1923 to the late John J. and Sarah Burns Burke.

Nan received her education at St. Peter’s Elementary School, Catholic Central High School, Troy and the Brady Hospital in Albany. She married Vic at St. Augustine’s Church on 4.27.1947. She was an LPN at a time when women were expected to stay home. Fiercely feminist she went to work at the former Emma Laing Stevens Hospital in Granville, NY. She loved her work, her patients and most of all, her dear nursing yayas. She was a long time parishioner of St. Mary’s in Granville and taught her daughters the faith she held so dear.
No one loved shopping, decorating, and having parties more than Nan. She loved having her family and friends for dinner parties, serving the latest gourmet dishes including the laughter and singing and presence all with gracious hospitality and aplomb. Her middle name should have been STYLE. In the empty nester days, she and Vic traveled extensively. When the grands came she threw herself into loving and caring for them. As a very courageous widow Nan became very active in the Associates to the Sisters of St. Joseph, where she not only deepened her faith but made many fast friends walking her elder journey for 25 years. As her health declined she moved back to the North Country and enjoyed her time at St. Michael the Archangel in SGF. The last leg of her journey was spent at Westmoumt Health Facility. The caregivers were consistently compassionate, loving and gentle with our Mother.

Beside her parents she will be reunited on the other side of the veil with her adoring husband, Vic Secci, her Grandchildren Sarabeth Nadeau and Gregory Scuderi, her sister Helen Burke McHugh, her sister in law Lillian Secci Martin and her three brothers-in-law, Alphonse Palladino, Louis Martin and James McHugh.
Left to hold, in our hearts forever, are her daughters Sally ( Sam) Scuderi & Ellen ( Heather Driscoll) Secci. Her grandchildren Bridget Nadeau ( fiancé Matt Dexter) and Stephen Scuderi, her sister Gloria Burke Palladino, 3 nieces and 6 nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm on Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 80 Saratoga Road, South Glens Falls with a Funeral Mass at 1pm, celebrated by Rev. Guy A. Childs.

Following the Mass there will be a reception and High Tea.

In lieu of flowers please make any donations to St. Michael the Archangel Bereavement Hospitality Ministry c/o St. Michael’s 80 Saratoga Rd., South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
