Obituary for James Donald Smail

South Glens Falls/ Essex Junction, VT

James Donald Smail, 71, of Grand Boulevard, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

Born on Feb. 19, 1944, in Colchester, Vt., he was the son of the late Donald W. and Margaret E. (Dwire) Smail.

James was born and raised in Vermont where he spent 45 years before relocating to South Glens Falls, where he and his wife spent the next 24 years together.

He was employed by ESMI in Fort Edward for approximately 10 years until his retirement.

Jim enjoyed most of all spending time with his family. He also enjoyed trips to the casino, vegetable gardening, NASCAR and both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Carolee Smail.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joan (Ovitt) Smail of So. Glens Falls, whom he spent 24 happy years with; his children, Donald Smail and partner, Christy Lapage, of Swanton VT, Chris Smail and his wife, Erica, of Fairfax VT and Nicole Oliver and her husband, Jeremy; his stepchildren, TammyVarmette and her husband Kevin, of South Glens Falls and Jeff Mumblo and his partner, Ginny Breault, of Glens Falls; his brother, Jeffrey Smail and his wife, Debbie, of Essex VT; his grandchildren, Tyler Bissonnette, Riley, Chantel and Leah Smail and Samantha Oliver; his step grandchildren, Jessica Mumblo, of Glens Falls and Joshua Mumblo, of South Glens Falls; his step great grandchildren, Braydon and Skyla, of Glens Falls; his nephew, Jeremy Smail and his wife, Sara, of Milton VT; his niece, Danielle Gingue and her husband, Keith, of Essex VT; his cousin, Larry Smail and his wife, Joanne, of South Glens Falls; as well as many cousins.

At Jim’s request there will be no calling hours. Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations in Jim’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society, 959 State Route 9 Queensbury, NY 12804.
