Louis Gilbert DeLisle, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at his home.

Born in Glens Falls on September 15, 1946, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Rita (Terrio) DeLisle.

He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1966. Right after graduation, Lou enlisted in the United States Army. After serving his time in the Army, Lou returned home to work at Scott Tissue where he stayed for about 3 years. In 1970, he began the first phase of his law enforcement career at the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department. In 1978, Lou went to work for General Food in Saratoga where he stayed for 21 years. Lou returned to law enforcement in 1988, as a patrolman for the South Glens Falls Police Department, where he worked for 15 years and retired from. Lou also returned to the military as a Staff Sergeant Medical Supply Specialist at the E5 Level in the New York State National Guard where he served 25 years before his honorable discharge as an E6 in 1999. He worked as a security officer at the ACE Hardware warehouse in Wilton for 7 years before he finally retired.

Lou was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast. When he became ill Lou went hunting and even went as far as being taped to a tree so that he could just be out there hunting. Lou was a big fan of Nascar and collected Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. memorabilia. He enjoyed going to his camp at Bulwagga Bay where he met many friends. Lou loved spending time with his friends and family.

He received many awards and recognition throughout his lifetime including Outstanding Soldier of the year 1983, 247th Medical Company NCO of the year 1989, Marksmanship Top Gun Award 1995, Academy of Health Services Medical Supply Specialist Diploma and the National Guard Long and Faithful service medal.

Lou married his loving wife, Mary Rivers on July 28, 1990, at the Lady of Annunciation Church in Queensbury.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary DeLisle, daughter, Anita DeLisle, son Louis DeLisle Jr. and wife Lisa both of Corinth, daughter Cassandra O’Donnell and husband Brandon of Queensbury, daughter, Samantha Moffitt and her partner Jessica of Glens Falls, grandchildren, Kyle Irving, Kelsey Dunigan-Irving, Keith Irving, Dawson DeLisle, Hanna DeLisle, Maddie DeLisle, Paige O’Donnell, and Brooke O’Donnell, siblings, John DeLisle and wife Judy of Gansevoort, sister, Ann Cutter and husband Roger of Queensbury, brother, Raymond DeLisle of Queensbury, sisters in-law, Barbara Houde and husband Edward, Karen Joseph and husband John, Cheryl Rivers, brother in-law, JR Rivers and wife Brenda, father in-law, Leeward Rivers all of South Glens Falls, and his loving dogs, Teddy Bear and Onyx, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the funeral home with Sister Donna M. Irvine S.S.N.D, Glens Falls Hospital Chaplain, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow the service at noon on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Pall Bearers will be Bob Kelly, Jeff McCabe, Dave Comstock, Todd Moultrop, Harry McDonald, and Ed Tracy all of whom worked with Lou in law enforcement.

Donations in Lou’s memory may be made to Parkinson Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.

The family wishes to thank all the sitters who came to the home, Dr. Petracca and his staff, the nursing staff of Gentive, the services of Anthem/Lincare Health services for their wonderful care and compassion of Lou.
