Obituary for Elaine Schempp

Elaine Schempp
Elaine I. (King) Schempp, 93, died peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2015, at Stanton Nursing Home, with her family by her side.

Born July 10, 1922, in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of William and Mildred (Klotz) King.

Elaine graduated from the Walton School, an all-girls school in the Bronx. After high school, during World War 11 she worked in the shipyard offices. She also worked at Sears Roebuck and Company.

On October 21, 1947, she married John T. Schempp, in Newburgh, NY. Sadly, in 1958 at age 40, John died suddenly of a heart attack leaving Elaine a young widow at age 36, with their three young children.
Not wanting to raise her children alone in the City, she moved to South Glens Falls in 1959.

For many years Elaine worked at the Triple S Blue Stamp Store in South Glens Falls.

Elaine was an avid, lifelong New York Yankees fan. Her all-time favorite players were Joe DiMaggio and Derek Jeter. She also enjoyed reading, especially autobiographies and biographies of actors, actresses, and old sports legends, playing cards and scrabble, watching old movies, which she was an authority on knowing all of the actors and actresses in movies made prior to 1960, and listening to music, including her favorite artists - Frank Sinatra and Jerry Vale. Elaine also enjoyed playing the horses every Sunday with her son-in-law, Bob. He would print out the racing form and they would go over the horses and take turns picking the winners.

Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her son, John T. Schempp.

Survivors include her son, William J. Schempp and his wife, Donna, of South Glens Falls; her daughter, Catherine Knapp and her husband, Bob, of South Glens Falls; her grandchildren: Chris Schempp and his wife, Heidi, William Schempp and his wife, Cheryl, Megan Pliscofsky and her husband, Ron, John Schempp and his companion, Sarah, Lauren Schempp and her companion, Carlos, and Emily Mott and her husband, Ryan; her great grandchildren: Julia and Marley Schempp, Lucy Pliscofsky, and Alyssa Schempp; her daughter-in-law, Mary Schempp; her Aunt Shirley Audenino of Pine Plains NY, and several cousins.
