Obituary for Mary K. "Mary K" Robinson (Colligan)

Cohoes, NY

Mary K. Robinson, 80, passed away on Monday January 25, 2016 at the Diamond Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy.

Mary was born in Watertown on January 26, 1935. She was the daughter of the late John and Agatha (Loftus) Colligan.

Mary resided in Watertown until 1975 when she moved to South Glens Falls. In 1995, she moved to Ballston Lake, and subsequently to Cohoes in 2009.

Mary was a registered professional nurse having graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Watertown and later obtaining a BS in health care administration. She was employed in various nursing positions in the Glens Falls area. Her favorite employment was as the first RN at Community Workshop, INC., Glens Falls, as well as various other programs and administrative positions there.

Mary retired first in 1996 from Great Adirondack Home Aides as Director of patient services and then again in 1997 from Home Care Partners, Johnstown, as manager/ Director of patient services, an interim position.

Mary was happiest volunteering for the American Red Cross (Adirondack Saratoga Chapter) in the capacity of volunteer health and safety chairperson. She and her husband, Dick, taught courses in CPR and first aid for 25 years. She was a health and safety consultant for her own chapter and also had outside the chapter responsibilities. She was an instructor/ trainer in CPR and first aid.

Mary served as secretary for Warren/ Washington EMS council and was a member of Washington County Ambulance Association, representing the American Red Cross. She was an EMS instructor for Washington County.

Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas J. Smith; her daughter Margaret, her stepdaughter, Beth Anne, and her brother, John Colligan.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Dick; her daughter. Ann St. Croix; her son, Thomas J. Smith; her sister in law, Kathleen Colligan; her step children, Debbie Willette and Richard J. Robinson and his wife, Jill; as well as 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

At Mary’s request there will be no calling hours. A graveside prayer service will be held at Union Cemetery, Fort Edward, in the Spring.
