Obituary for Myrtle Edna Reid

FORT EDWARD

Myrtle Edna Reid, 102, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2016 in Hockessin, Delaware.

Born June 19, 1913 in Argyle, NY, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Lina (Hunt) Reid, and a descendant of William Reid Esq., and Catherine Campbell.

Myrtle attended Fort Edward High School and Glens Falls Academy where she graduated in 1932. She then enrolled in the McDowell School of Design. Myrtle worked as a seamstress in the garment district in New York City where she made high end couture clothing for Norman Norell Designs.

In 1976, Myrtle retired and became involved in genealogy. She contributed to I Remember: Argyle in 1996, and also to Argyle, My Argyle in 1998. She co-authored both The Descendants of William Reid Esquire and Catherine Campbell in 2000, and the Reid Family Photo Biography in 2001.

In addition to her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her brother, William J. Reid, and her sister, Eula Reid Orange.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces; Janet Aradine and her husband Richard of Beaverton OR, Patricia Kennedy and her husband John of Hockessin, DE, Karen Blanchard and her husband Ed of Downington, PA, and Diane Tarbay and her husband Paul of Cheshire, CT, as well as many grand, and great-grand nieces and nephews.

At Myrtle’s request there will be no calling hours. Graveside services for Myrtle will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday April 9, 2016 at the Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street.

Memorial donations in Myrtle’s name can be made to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, Inc, PO Box 226, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
