George William Johnson III, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home.

George was the son of the late George William Johnson II and Mary (Thomas) Johnson. He grew up in Johnsburg and graduated from Johnsburg Central School.

On November 10, 1967, George married the love of his life, Alice Abbott, in the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church. They went on to spend over 48 years of their lives together raising a family and caring for each other. They have been long times members of the local Methodist church.

George’s early employment included logging with Fred Baker in and around Johnsburg. He later worked for 28 years and retired from General Electric in Fort Edward as a foreman in the capacitor division. Following retirement he worked with his son and Volt Landscaping operating heavy equipment.

George loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed ice hockey, following the National Hockey League and local teams in Glens Falls, as well as coaching young players in the Glens Falls area.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Alice M. Johnson; his two sons, Daniel P. and Timothy M. Johnson; his two grandsons, Jacob G. and Logan P. Johnson; his brother, Michael Johnson; his sister, Cynthia Wing; his nephew Robert Wing, his wife Kim, and their children; his sister in law, Barbara Abbott; and his aunt, Marge Swan.

At George’s request there will be no calling hours.

A graveside service in Southside Cemetery will be conducted at noon on Friday, May 6, 2016, led by Reverend William Puckey, pastor of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of both the Tri-County Nursing Home in North Creek and the Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward for the care and compassion shown to George during his time with them.
