Obituary for Frances Carmen Carlson (Seavey)

Frances Carmen  Carlson (Seavey)
Frances C. Carlson, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2016 in Loudonville.

Born on November 28, 1925 in Boston Massachusetts she was the daughter of the late Grace (Akins) Seavey.

Fran married Bill Carlson on September 12, 1948 in Dover, NH at St. John’s Methodist Church.

Fran and Bill were very involved for over 40 years in the Schenectady ARC and on October 20, 2014, their commitment to the ARC was honored with the dedication of a group home, The Carlson House, in memory of their son, Billy.

She was an advocate for people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities for over 60 years. In the 50’s she was instrumental in having laws in the state of New Hampshire changed to better accommodate persons with developmental disabilities.

In addition to her mother and husband, Fran was predeceased by her son, Billy Carlson; her brothers, Ralph (Duke) Seavey Jr. and Fred Seavey.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter Dr. Carol Carlson of Albany; grandchildren, Matthew Phelps and his wife, Cara, Jonathan Phelps and Kirstie Harris and her husband Will; great-granddaughters, Amaya and Ava Harris; sisters, Merl Bartels of St. Cloud, FL and Phyllis Powers of Tulia, TX; brothers, Don Seavey and his wife Jean of Sparks, NV and Robert Seavey and his wife Carol of Lake Wales, FL.

At Fran’s request, there will be no calling hours. Joint services for Bill and Fran will conducted on Friday, June 10 at 11a.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871.

Arrangements are in the care of M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
