Obituary for Glenwood L. "Mike" Baker

Glenwood L. "Mike" Baker
Hudson Falls
Glenwood “Mike” Baker, 95 of Burgoyne Avenue, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on May 1, 1921 in Dorsett, Vt. He was the son of the late Fred and Bertha (Hewlett) Baker.

On January 25, 1942, Mike married the love of his life, Dorothy E. Donnelly and they spent 59 happy years until her passing in 2001.

Mike worked for NBC for 33 years as a mechanic and truck driver. He enjoyed doing lawn work, working with wood, especially building bird houses and wishing wells. He also enjoyed camping, garage sales, fishing, cooking and made a great Apple Pie. Mike had a love for storytelling and especially enjoyed traveling to Vermont for various Bluegrass festivals.

He’ll be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. His favorite saying to his three daughters was “check your wants with your needs”. Our reply was always “Love you, Dad” and he would always say “Love you more!”

Besides his parents, Mike was also predeceased by his wife Dorothy E. (Donnelly) Baker who passed away November 30, 2001.

Left to cherish his memory include his 3 daughters, Joan Perry and her late husband, Thomas, of Glens Falls, Rose Hall and her late husband A.J. of Hudson Falls, Bonnie Baker, of Glens Falls; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; his sisters, Marjorie Sidusky of Hudson Falls and Joyce Virgel of VA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 11am - noon at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway Fort Edward, NY 12828.

Services will be conducted following calling hours at noon with the Rev. James Swanson of the Turning point Wesleyan Church, Ft. Miller, officiating.

Burial will follow services at 2pm in the Mettowee Valley Cemetery, Pawlett, Vt.

Donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center c/o Glens Falls Hospital Foundation, 126 South St. Glens Falls, NY 12801.
