Robert Sheldon Sweet, 87, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016 at his home.

Born June 20, 1929 in Wilton he was the son of the late Robert and Esther A. (Burdick) Sweet.

He graduated from Saratoga Springs High School.

After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

On June 15, 1958 Bob married Mary Lou Daly at St. Michaels Church, South Glens Falls by father Mason.

Bob was a member of South Glens Falls Central School Board of Education for 14 years, former lector at St. Therese Chapel in Gansevoort.

He retired from Finch Pruyn in Glens Falls with over 23 years of service, previously employed at the U.S. Post office in Gansevoort, the Great A&P Tea Co. in Fort Edward and Tri County Motor Parts in Glens Falls.

Robert enjoyed woodworking, gardening, quilt making and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife of 44 years Mary Lou Sweet; brothers, Harry S. Sweet, Lloyd D. Sweet; sister, Thelma Rice.

Left to cherish his memory include his sons, Jonathan B. Sweet of Gansevoort and Andrew C. Sweet and his wife Melissa of South Glens Falls; daughters, Mary Beth and her husband Leonard Schaefer and Lauryl and her husband Michael Smith both of Queensbury; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Sweet, Christopher Sweet, Sarah Schaefer, Erin Monroe, Nathan Sweet, Kyle Schaefer, Karissa Baxter, Courtney Sweet and Jacob Sweet; great grandchildren, Kenzie Baxter, Aleana Baxter, Jonathan Sheldon Sweet, Brielle Young and Lauren Sweet; companion, Roberta Bentley; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 4-6p.m. on Wednesday June 29, 2016 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St. South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday June 30, 2016 at 10a.m. at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St. South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Rev. Patti Girard officiating.

Burial will be held at Griswold Cemetery Moreau, NY following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations in Robert’s memory can be made to Habitat for Humanity Capital District 325 Washington Ave. Ext. Albany, NY 12205.
