Obituary for Ervin Arthur Fries

Queensbury

Ervin A. Fries, 86, passed away Monday September 5, 2016 at Albany Medical Center.

Born June 20, 1930 in Scranton, PA he was the son of the late William and Jessie (Callender) Fries.

He graduated from Technical High School in Scranton, PA.

After high school Ervin joined the United States Air Force proudly serving his country from 1951-1955.

On September 6, 1952 he married the love of his life Marlyn Janes.

Ervin retired from Castleton VT School District as a mechanic. He also worked for Pratt & Whitney as an aerospace mechanic for 19 years and started an excavating business in Argyle, NY.

He enjoyed kayaking until age 84, hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. After retirement he got his lifeguard certificate at 70 years old and was a ski instructor at Double H Hole in the Woods.

In addition to his parents, Ervin was predeceased by his brother, Clinton Fries and son-in-law, Jeff Wells.

Left to cherish his memory include his “me too girl” of 63 years, Marlyn Fries; his sister, Joan Osborne of Hudson Falls; his 6 beautiful daughters, Linda VanNorman of Fort Collins, CO, Susan Wells of Lake Placid, Lois Stark and her husband Jeff of Argyle, Shirley Updike and her husband David of Highland Village, TX, Kristen Cecere of Fort Collins, CO, and Carrie Cutter and her husband Gary of Queensbury; 13 grandchildren, Shannon Nealon, Andrew VanNorman, Aaron Wells, Jessie Seguin, Michael Stark, Heather Malave, Melissa Fronhofer, Joshua Updike, Rhianna Hendrix, Natalie Updike, Elizabeth Leonard, Lauren Cutter and Lexi Cutter; 13 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4-6p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main Street South Glens Falls, NY 12809.

A Funeral service will be conducted on Friday September 9, 2016 at 10:30am at the First Baptist Church South Glens Falls 1721 U.S. 9, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Pastor Francis Galerie officiating.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
