Obituary for Evelyn Lena Jacobie (Farley)

Evelyn Lena  Jacobie (Farley)
Evelyn Lena (Farley) Jacobie passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, October 21, 2016.
Evelyn was born on November 13, 1924 at the family farm on Farley Road in West Fort Ann. She was the oldest child of Edson L and Florence (Hartman) Farley. Evelyn grew up in Hudson Falls, graduating in 1943.
In 1947, she married the love of her life, William E. Jacobie. They were married 58 years. During those happy years, they built two homes for their growing family. They raised three treasured children together;
Marilyn and Michael Sheerer, Kevin and Barbara Jacobie and Laurie and Kenneth Russell. They also opened their hearts and home to two more wonderful people. Phillip Abraham came to live with them as a young boy and quickly became one of their own. Ingveldur Adalsteinsdottir (Disa)came as an exchange student from Iceland. Her year stay was the start of a warm and lasting friendship, until her death in May 2008.
Her treasures multiplied with the coming of her grandchildren; Andrea Manion, Melanie Hall, Eric Pliscofsky, David Sheerer, Chad Pliscofsky, Bradley Sheerer, Kathleen Jacobie , and Adam Jacobie
Her Great Grandchildren are: Abigail Sheerer, Kaden Pliscofsky, Michael Sheerer, Riley Hall, Karson Throneburg, Jacquelin Sheerer, and Luke Hall.
Evelyn worked at a variety of jobs during her lifetime. She was a secretary at the Union Bag, Spotlight Printing, Jacobie Oil Company, and finally at the First Baptist Church in South Glens Falls.
Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and especially enjoyed crocheting, quilting and other handcrafts. Her hands were seldom idle. She loved tending her flower gardens and canning food from the vegetable garden. Her home was always open to entertain visiting missionaries, evangelists, family and friends of all ages. For years the church youth group spent many Sunday nights in her home. Many family visits were enjoyed sitting around a table playing games. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and the daily crossword puzzle in the Post Star. She lived a full life, an incredible legacy and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her faith and church were essential. Evelyn served her church in several capacities over the years. Her church family was a comfort and joy.
Travel was always a big delight for Evelyn and Bill. They had wonderful trips to Alaska, California and Arizona. It became even more enjoyable with the coming of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors are: Robert Farley, Edson Farley, Brian Farley, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evelyn is predeceased by her husband, parents, a daughter Kathleen Jacobie, a granddaughter Jennifer Pliscofsky and a half-sister Julie Baker.
