Obituary for Minnie Eva Minshall (Saunders)

Argyle

Minnie Eva (Saunders) Smith, Davis, Minshall, 94 of Argyle died on October 23, 2016 at Washington Center.

Born in Argyle, at the family farm, she was the 1st daughter of Leland Andrew and Ethel White (Clark) Saunders. Her Brothers would tease her that she was the 1st to have a doctor come that had to be paid and she cost a whole dollar!!

Minnie was a professional seamstress for most of her adult life. In her early years, she worked in a shirt factory in Greenwich, NY, then moved on to a dress factory in Glens Falls and after returning to New York from many years in the south, she retired from J & J Lingerie at the age of 70. She was known to help with many of her family’s prom or wedding & bridesmaid’s dresses as well as doing custom projects for other clients and making fabulous Barbie doll outfits out of the material scraps. She was also great with knitting and crochet needles. Many members of her family received sweaters or blankets for the newborns or the elders and there are many needlepoint pieces that are still hanging around.

Besides her parents, Minnie was predeceased by her husband’s: Russell T. Smith Sr., Orin Davis, and Norman Minshall, all her brothers: Bob Saunders & his wife Laura, Cyril Saunders & his wife Irene, Merrill Saunders & his wife Margaret, Leland Saunders, James Saunders, John Saunders and Don Saunders, her sister & husband Bernice & Roswell Barbur. She was also predeceased by her sons, Russell T. Smith Jr. and Michael A. Smith and many cousins.

Survivors include her daughter Jennifer Whitaker and her life partner Gary Willett, her son Jonathan and her grandchildren: Eden Whitaker-Greenwood and her husband James Greenwood of Gansevoort, and great-grandsons: Ryan Whitaker and Collin and Darren Greenwood; her grandson Dain Whitaker and his wife Michelle of South Glens Falls and great granddaughter Chelsey Morrison and great grandsons: Christian, Chandler and Adam Whitaker, grandsons Arnold and Alexander Smith of South Glens Falls and granddaughter, Malissa Smith &, grandsons Michael Smith Jr. and Matthew Smith all of Las Vegas, Nevada and granddaughter Melinda Smith of South Glens Falls. Great granddaughters: Kelsey Smith, Samus Smith, Annabelle Smith of Nevada, daughters-in-law Sandy Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada and Winona Bedell Smith of Helena, Montana, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters, Luella (James) Smith and Rebecca (L. Martin) Smith both of Greenwich.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 pm on Thursday Oct 27, 2016 at M.B. Kilmer home 123 Main Street, Argyle, NY 12809.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made in Minnie’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
