Obituary for Richard G. Hessler

Richard Hessler, 82, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in Little Falls on July 28, 1934 he was the son of the late Jacob and Martha (Graudons) Hessler.

He graduated from Little Falls High School. After high school, Dick enlisted in the United States Airforce. He was stationed in Munich, Germany for three years serving as a Medic Airman 1st Class. When he returned home, Dick went to the University of Buffalo graduating with his B.A. in Business Administration and Fordham University graduating with his masters in social work.

On August 30, 1958 Dick married the love of his life Gretchen Weinreich in Oil City, PA.

Dick served as an Elder at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

He retired from International Paper in Manhattan. After retirement he worked for B.O.C.E.S. and for Catholic Charities as a psychotherapist.

Dick enjoyed golfing, traveling, boating, skiing and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother, William “Bud” Hessler.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Gretchen Hessler; his daughter, Kathleen Scherer and her husband Paul; his son, William Hessler and his wife Christine; grandchildren, Jessica Scherer, Carly Hessler and Jacob Hessler.

At Dick’s request there will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd 543 Glen St. Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Rev. Paul R. Wagner officiating.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
