Obituary for Annamae Goodspeed

Annamae Goodspeed
Fort Edward/ Brooklyn

Anna Mae (Leddick) Goodspeed was received into the Lords embrace on June 29, 2017.

Anna Mae (36-24-36) was born to the late John and Sarah (Campney) Leddick on the William T. Bussey barge in the 96th street pier of New York Harbor. She loved to tell that one of New York’s finest helped in her delivery along with her father. Anna Mae and her family loved on the barge until her eldest brother had to attend school. The family then moved inland to Bond St., eventually moving to Sackett St. in Brooklyn where they remained until she was 17. At this time, her family moved to the town of Johnsburg to help care for their maternal grandfather. It was in Johnsburg that the self-proclaimed “smarta- kid from Brooklyn” met, fell in love with and married Don Goodspeed. Together, they had five sons and one daughter. Anna Mae and her husband lived in many towns while raising their family and while out on a Sunday drive, Anna Mae fell in love with the little town of Fort Edward and moved her family there in 1974.

She worked as a long-distance telephone operator for many years, a switch board operator and cashier for Glens Falls Hospital and a Sr. registrar at Saratoga Hospital where she remained until her retirement at the age of 80. In her later years, Anna Mae went back to school to receive her degree in accounting, an accomplishment that gave her great pride.

Anna Mae is a lady of immense faith. She was a Cantor at St. Joseph’s Church for 25 years and her many years involved with the choir brought her incredible joy. She is and extraordinary woman who raised a loving and strong family. She is a mom, friend and a teacher. Time spent with her family are some of her most precious memories.

In addition to her parents Anna Mae is predeceased by her husband, Don Goodspeed Sr.; brother, Melvin Leddick; son, T. Dan Goodspeed; sister-in-law’s, Virginia Hitchcock, Lillian West, Marlene Leddick, and Joyce Leddick; brother-in-law, David Millington; nephews, Mark Goodspeed, David Goodspeed, and Randy Hitchcock; a very dear friend, Victoria Muller; and her beloved dog, Honey Butter.

Left to cherish her memory include her sons, Don Jr (Evelyn), Howard (Penny), Timothy (Diane), and Patrick (Donna); her only daughter, Erin (Carol); grandchildren, Rob (Jolene), Allen, Tilly, Dana, Danielle (James), Amber, Jamie (Michael), Timothy (Jessica), Sarah (Nick), Patrick (Amanda), and Jacob (Katelyn); her 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; her sisters, Lee Ross, Sylvia Goodspeed, Peg McLean (Angus) and Gretchen Millington; her brothers, Michael Leddick (Rita) and Gregg Leddick (Gloria); her grand dogs, Piper, Paget, and Rapscallion; her many dear friends from Saratoga Hospital and St. Joseph’s Parish; along with several nieces and nephews.

Anna Mae made friends wherever she went, too numerous to name, all of them dear to her.

Friends may call from 4p.m. to 6p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, New York 12828.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 11a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

“The song may have ended, but the music lingers on.”

Thank you, Mom, we will miss you forever.
