William Arthur "Bill"  Selfridge

William (Bill) Arthur Selfridge, 81, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.

Born on April 21, 1936 in Glens Falls to the late Bernard and Marian (Smith) Selfridge.

Bill graduated from South Glens Falls High School. He took International Correspondence classes to become a millwright. Then for addition trade education, Bill attended BOCES.

On July 11, 1964, Bill married Shirley Ann Walsh at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church in Hudson Falls.

He worked at General Electric from the mid 1950’s until the early 60’s when he started working at A.C. Warner. Bill worked heavy construction from the mid 1960’s to 1973. He retired from Finch and Pruyn in 1998 after 25 years of service as a millwright.

Bill was a trustee and a former chairman of the Fortsville United Methodist Church in Fortsville, NY. He was also a member of the Local 229 United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Millwrights and a former Free and Accepted Mason. He was a member of the New York National Guard.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, wood working, traveling, helping others, history and music. He only knew one way to do things - the right way.

In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his sister, Barbara (Selfridge) Munoff and her husband, Joseph; his grandparents, Carl Allen and his wife, Flossie (Wakely) Smith; and several aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann (Walsh) Selfridge of Moreau; his sons, William Arthur Selfridge II and his wife, Linda, of Hudson Falls, Carl Garland Selfridge and his wife, Jennifer, of Morgantown, WV, Benjamin Allen Selfridge of Moreau; his grandson, Nathaniel William Selfridge of Morgantown, WV; his step grandchildren, Annette Koopmann, Ashley Hall, Adam Hall and his wife, Shay, and Andrew Hall; and 7 step great grandchildren; multiple brothers and sisters-in-law, an aunt, an uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wants to give sincere gratitude to the Community Hospice of Saratoga and a special thank you to Jenn, Kelly, Karen, Dr. Ford, Mary and the other nurses who cared for Bill.

Friends may call from 12 to 2pm on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Fortsville United Methodist Church, Fortsville Rd, Gansevoort, NY 12831.

Funeral services will be at 2pm with Rev. Paul Dufford, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow services at North Argyle Cemetery.
