Gerard proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Korea from 1962-1964.

After leaving the fire department and moving to the Glens Falls area, Gerard was very involved with the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. He was well known for walking everywhere and befriending everyone, especially his pals at the 99 Restaurant. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Gerard was predeceased by his wife Jean Mason in 2007, his sons; John and Kenneth Iler, and his daughter-in-law Jackie Iler.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Gerard Mason and his partner Tracy Basher, Wesley Iler, and Margaret Hawk and her husband Randy, his grandchildren; Heather, Kevin, John, Debbie, Gina, and Holly; his great-grandchildren; Addison, Lexi, Robbie, Tyler, and Bella; as well as his daughter-in-law, Donna Iler.
