FORT EDWARD

Merrill D. Durham Sr., 75, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on July 4, 1942 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Irene and Eugene Durham. He was a graduate of Fort Edward High School.

On May 11, 1962 he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Smith. They spent almost 56 loving years together.

Merrill spent the majority of his working career as a manager at Grand Union. He retired from BASF as a chemical engineer.

Merrill was most happy when surrounded by family. He felt as though his family was his greatest accomplishment; to him family came first. He also loved his garden. Merrill spent hours tending and creating the most amazing gardens. He enjoyed being able to supply family, friends and neighbors with fresh fruits and vegetables. In retirement, he took up a love for cooking. He enjoyed cooking for all the weekly dinner nights he had with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife Patricia Durham; their children, Melanie McCann (David), Merrill Durham Jr (Julie), Melissa Durham, Mary Backus and Matthew Durham (Debbie); eleven grandchildren, Karen Coon, Sarah Coon, Anthony Shoemaker, Mia, Joshua and Colby Durham, Kylee Dolphin, Nicole Orleman, Shelby Backus, Kelsee and Kyle; Eleven great grandchildren; one brother Leonard Durham (Marie) and one nephew Lance Durham.

Friends may call from 4-7pm on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. A Celebration of Merrill’s life will follow calling hours at 7pm with Rev. Ken Prater of the Durkeetown Baptist Church officiating.

Memorial donations in Merrill’s name can be made to the Hadley Luzerne Mini Marathon, 273 Lake Ave, Lake Luzerne NY, 12846.
