Obituary for Warren S. Carruthers

Warren S. Carruthers
South Glens Falls

Warren S. Carruthers, 85 passed away at home on Monday, March 19, 2018 with his loving family at his side.
Warren was born in Queens, New York on September 12, 1932, the son of the late Sydney D., and Myrle (Lucas) Carruthers.

In addition to his parents, Warren was predeceased by his son Mark Carruthers, his brother Henry Carruthers, his sister-in-law Stephanie Carruthers and his brother-in-law Dewey Powell.

Warren married his wife of 64 years Betty (Kelly) on August 29, 1953 and he frequently referred to Betty as the “love of his life”.

He is survived by his children, Warren (Lisa), Richard (Lisa), Gregory, Jeffrey, Daniel (Robin), Daphne (Bob) and William Carruthers. His brothers, Robert (Dolores) Carruthers, Gerald Carruthers, his sister Joan Powell, brother George (Tina) and sister-in-law Liz Carruthers. He is survived by 18 Grandchildren: Melissa (Sean) Quirk, Cambria, Lindsay, Warren, Matthew (Liz), Timmy, Paige, Justin, Ryan, Carey, Lauren, and Chelsea Carruthers, Jennifer (Scott) Heydrick, Jonathan, Jeffrey (Erin), and Matthew Greenwood, Logan and Tyler Carruthers. Warren was also the great grandfather of 9 great grandchildren. Time spent with family was of the greatest pride and joy to Warren.

Warren proudly served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He was a principal and Vice President of the family contracting business S.D. Carruthers Sons, Inc. from its formation in 1950 to his retirement in 2009. During his time with the firm, he participated in management and control of all field operations of the company, and was responsible for guiding it through the growth and expansion that helped make it the successful and well recognized organization that it is today.

The family would like to thank Dr. Don Merrihew and his “caregiver” Laurie for taking such good care of Warren during these past several months as his health slowly declined.

At Warren’s request there will be no calling hours.

A private memorial service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Community Hospice Foundation, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
