South Glens Falls

Betty J. Hoffis, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Home of the Good Shepherd surrounded by her family.

Born on June 25, 1925, in Adamsville, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Clara (Hamelin) Meneely. Betty was lovingly raised by her foster parents, Roland and Laura Herrick.

Betty graduated from South Glens Falls High School. On May 8, 1954, Betty married Michael G. Hoffis at St. George Orthodox Church. They spent 38 years together until his passing in February of 1992. For more than 35 years Betty and Mike owned and operated Mike’s Restaurant and Fireside Lounge in South Glens Falls. Betty later on owned Andy’s Drive Inn in Lake George.

Betty was a lifelong member of the Adirondack Friends Meeting and served as the Clerk of the Finance Committee and was the head of the Adirondack Friends Women’s Committee.

She enjoyed shopping, cleaning, decorating, planting flowers and taking care of her home. Betty loved the time she spent with her sister and working at the restaurants

Everyone called Betty, “Aunt Betty” even if they weren’t family. She was a very kind and extremely generous woman who would help anyone in need. Aunt Betty will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty is predeceased by her siblings, John Meneely and Joyce Fisk; her brother-in-law, DeWitt Fisk; and her nephew, David Fisk.

Left to cherish her memory include her niece, Betty Girard and her husband, Michael and their children, Dalton and Spencer; her dear friend, Celia Monsour and her husband, Joseph and their family; nephew, Jack Meneely and his wife, Lynn and their family; her step-daughter, Sarah Hoffis McCarthy and her husband, Scott and their daughter, Brooke; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Edna Hoffis; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Meneely; nieces and nephews, William Meneely, Linda Stringer, Shirley Meneely, Gail Holland and their families; great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family.

Friends may call from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Adirondack Friends Meeting, 27 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1pm following the calling hours at Adirondack Friends Meeting.

Burial will follow at St. George’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls.

Memorial donations in Betty’s name can be made to the Adirondack Friends Meeting, 27 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
