Obituary for Ralph "Carl" Brothers Sr.

Ralph "Carl" Brothers Sr.
Queensbury

Ralph “Carl” Brothers, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and the caring staff at Ft. Hudson Nursing Center, Fort Edward, NY. Ralph was born and raised in West Glens Falls, NY. After marrying Gail Mosher on December 8, 1956, they resided on Minnesota Avenue, WGF until 1998 when they bought their dream home on a country hill in Comstock, NY. After Gail passed in 2013, Dad resided at The Landing, now Brookdale, from 2015-2017. Carl resided at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center for the last 6 months.

Carl, was born on April 17, 1934, at his parents home on Main Street, West Glens Falls.
He attended Glens Falls schools. Carl’s first job was at a soda fountain at a pharmacy close to his home where he grew up. He was a mechanic for Parsons Garage and Trailways. He delivered and sold soda for Pepsi-Cola where he was recognized as top salesman of the month on numerous occasions. He retired from his Maintenance Manager position at the Queensbury Water Department at the age of 62 which he was quite proud of.

Carl enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Nothing fancy for him, he just appreciated everyday things. Carl will be remembered as a fun loving man. Always the life of the party, with a sense of humor and no filters on his comments. He enjoyed his time taking care of his home, picnics, camping, visiting family and friends with Gail, garage sales, country music and polyurethaning anything he could get his hands on. A great love of his, besides Gail, was his love of his cars. His cars were always spotless, inside and out, waxed and filled with gas! His biggest enjoyment was the time he spent with his family. He was a great Dad and a loving “Grampy” to his three granddaughters. He made us all laugh and have fun.

He is predeceased by his wife, Gail (Mosher) Brothers, his parents, Harold and Iva (Doty) Brothers, Sr., His brother, Harold Brothers, Jr., his sister, Phyllis Riley. As well, in-laws, Katherine Lockwood, Elaine McFaul, Shirley Abare, Lola Stone, Elizabeth Scarselletta, Lona Atkinson, Chrystal Palmeri, Gary, Kenneth and Peter Mosher.

He is survived by his daughter Carla Smith and her husband, Robert, Queensbury. His son, Ralph Brothers, Jr. and his wife, Lori (Sanders), Mesa, AZ. His granddaughters, Emily Smith, Malta, Elyse Smith, Queensbury and Emily Chester, Saratoga Springs. A favorite nephew, Martin “Mark” Mosher, Queensbury. A sister, Marilyn Folger, Glens Falls and his brother’s wife, Janet Brothers, Queensbury. From his wife’s side, sisters-in-law, Margaret Manney and Dora Mosher, Queensbury. Brothers-in-law, Martin Mosher, Queensbury and John Mosher, Texas. Many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Ft. Hudson Nursing Center that showed amazing care and compassion for Carl in his final months as he battled Alzheimer’s Disease. Brookdale staff deserve a special thank you, as well, for the kindness and respect they gave to Carl.
