Obituary for Stuart Clifford Corlew

Stuart Clifford Corlew
Argyle

Stuart Clifford Corlew, 79, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 29, 1938, in Kingsbury, he was the son of Clifford and Isabelle (Evens) Corlew.

Stuart was a 1956 graduate of Argyle Central School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. On May 27, 1988, Stuart married Geraldine Stacavich in Dresden.

For 34 years, Stuart was a member of the Tri-County Holstein Club, raising and breeding Registered Holsteins. He was recently named a “top breeder” by New York Holstein News. His love for farming started at a young age growing up on his parent’s dairy farm in Argyle. Stuart was an active member of FFA and 4-H during high school, which made his love for cattle grow even more.

Stuart worked for the Town of Argyle and Washington County highway departments before joining the New York State Department of Corrections. He worked for 25 years as a corrections officer and sergeant, retiring from Mount McGregor Correctional Facility. Upon his retirement, he started a construction business with his son, Ron, working together for 20 years. Stuart was also skilled in electrical, heating and plumbing, and could fix anything. He was also a member of the Argyle EMS and the J.A. Barkley Hose Company in Argyle.

In addition to his love for farming, Stuart enjoyed fishing and Brooks’ BBQ. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events as often as possible. Every year for 30 years, Stuart and Geraldine enjoyed their vacations to the Amish Country in Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, Stuart is predeceased by his brother, Philip Corlew; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert Ingersoll, Bob Stacavich and Sharon Heartshore; and his niece, Roberta Bush.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 30 years, Geraldine; his children, Theresa Komarony of Argyle, Ron Corlew and his wife, Patty of Granville, Deb Newell and her husband, Dan of Argyle, Karen LaBarge and her husband, Rob of South Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Chris and Katelyn Komarony, Jacob and Haley Corlew, Daniel, Adam and Jessica Newell, and Joseph Leavens; his step-children, Robin Leavens and her fiancé, Mark Bowe, Jodi Upton, Anthony Upton and Larry Upton; his siblings, Arlene Ingersoll, Roger Corlew and his wife, Sandy; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William & Patrick Stacavich, Mary Ellen Bernard, Kathleen Emerson and Adrienne Ladd; the mother of his children, Catherine Corlew; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Argyle, NY 12809. To view Stuart’s Book of Memories and post online condolences, please visit http://www.kilmerfuneralhome.com/.
